
Kubla pops another marshmallow into his mouth. It’s his third.
“Kubla, stop. That’s disgusting.”
His face falls a little.
“But can I tell you a secret? When I was your age, I thought marshmallows were delicious.”
He brightens again. We’ve reconnected. I’ve validated his love of gooey sweetness.
My days of putting more than one marshmallow in my mouth at a time are thankfully long gone.
But Kubla’s are just beginning. Why rain on his sugar parade?
