When I was your age I thought it was delicious

Why tell them something they love is wrong?

When I was your age I thought it was delicious

Kubla pops another marshmallow into his mouth. It’s his third.

“Kubla, stop. That’s disgusting.”

His face falls a little.

“But can I tell you a secret? When I was your age, I thought marshmallows were delicious.”

He brightens again. We’ve reconnected. I’ve validated his love of gooey sweetness.

My days of putting more than one marshmallow in my mouth at a time are thankfully long gone.

But Kubla’s are just beginning. Why rain on his sugar parade?

What did you love as a kid that you can’t stand as an adult? How could you connect with your kids about it anyway?

In two weeks I’ll give a free Kidorable Umbrella to whoever makes my favorite comment.
